Franklin Elementary School

Cape Girardeau School District No. 63 passed a $40 million bond issue in 2010 and Strickland Engineering was the MPE consultant for the bond issue. Phillip B. Smith was the lead architect for the bond issue and McCarthy Brothers Construction was the Construction Manager for the bond issue. Bond Architects (formerly Bond Wolfe Architects) was the project architect for the new Franklin Elementary School.

This project included the construction of a new 52,000 SF new elementary school connected to the existing gymnasium building. Construction was on the original school site and the original building stayed in operation until the new school was completed, then the original building was demolished.

The HVAC system design included two dedicated outside air rooftop systems in conjunction with variable refrigerant flow equipment in the classroom area of the building. Common areas of the building were designed with DX cooling / gas heating rooftop units and energy recovery ventilation units. The building also included a full commercial kitchen equipped with a grease hood and a dishwasher hood.

The electrical design included an 800 amp, 480/277 volt electric service, energy efficient lighting systems including automatic lighting controls, communications systems including fiber-optic backbone cabling and network distribution frame equipment, high performance sound system in cafeteria, full-scale fire alarm monitoring system, and full-scale security and access control systems.
